Rashad Owens has been sentenced to life for killing four people and injuring over 20.
The driver behind the 2014 SXSW car crash that led to several deaths and injuries has been found guilty of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, the Austin American-Statesman reports. Juries agreed Owens was aware of his actions while avoiding traffic stops and ignoring barricades intended to prevent traffic from passing through.
“There is no other answer than that the defendant knew what he was doing — and he didn’t care …. He didn’t care who was in his way. He was not going to be stopped. He was not going to go to jail,” said prosecutor Amy Meredith. [via Pitchfork]
