Influential rap figure opens up on the Red Bull couch.
This year’s edition of the Red Bull Music Academy in Paris has wrapped up its first term. As always, some of the lectures are now making their way to YouTube for the whole world to witness.
One of those is a 1h30 conversation with Che Pope, a producer, songwriter, and the current president of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music label and collective.
Pope’s career goes back to the early 1990s, during which time he worked with Lauryn Hill on the singer’s groundbreaking debut, Dr. Dre at Aftermath Records, and on film scores alongside Hans Zimmer.
The RBMA lecture sees Pope touch on his work with Hill, the evolution of the hip-hop industry, and what it’s like working closely with Kanye. Watch it below, hosted by Egotrip’s Chairman Mao.
