Rapper calls for unity and awareness.
Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) released a new song called ‘NO Colonial Fiction’ via SoundCloud yesterday, in the aftermath of the attacks in Paris, France.
The artwork features a photo of Tamir Rice, the 12-year-old boy who was shot by a Cleveland police officer in 2014, while the song makes reference to the political turmoils affecting both America and Europe.
According to A Country Called Earth, ‘NO Colonial Fiction’ is taken from Bey’s forthcoming The Human Being (My Favorite Band) mixtape.
The website also shared an interview between Bey, who is currently in Germany, and journalist Ferrari Sheppard touching on the “Paris attacks, media coverage, neo-colonialism, and esoteric happenings.” In it Bey points out that events as seemingly disparate as Paris, student protests in America, Tamir Rice, and South Africa are all connected.
