Last Friday David Bowie celebrated his 69th birthday and released his final album Blackstar, a milestone celebrated on his official website with a new set of photos.
Taken by his longtime photographer Jimmy King, the shot was captioned: “Why is this man so happy? Is it because it’s his 69th birthday or that he has released his 28th studio album today and it’s a corker? Who knows, but we’re sure you’ll want to join us in congratulating him on both.”
A second photo from the shoot has also surfaced.
Artists, collaborators and admirers including Paul McCartney, Marilyn Manson and Kendrick Lamar have been paying tribute, with Brian Eno revealing his “funny and surreal” final letter from Bowie and Nile Rodgers writing a tribute to the pop icon.
