The NBA’s annual All-Star Weekend is coming up next month (February 12-14) and will hosted by the Toronto Raptors.
As with all things in The 6, Drake will have a hand in the festivities, coaching Team Canada on the first night’s celebrity match. For those uninitiated, Drake serves as the team’s Global Ambassador and the arena frequently hosts OVO-themed nights. (Most recently, this included a ‘Hotline Bling’ photobooth.)
Joining Team Canada is another NBA superfan from the Great White North, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler. NBA retirees Rick Fox and Tracy McGrady, the WNBA’s Natalie Achonwa, Drew and Jonathan Scott of HGTV’s Property Brothers and tennis pro Milos Raonic, among others, will round out the squad. Sure! Sounds good!
They do not stand a chance against Team USA.
Coached by actor-comedian Kevin Hart, who has won the MVP designation in four previous All-Star celebrity games, his team is rounded out by actors known for the hooping chops, like Jason Sudeikis, Anthony Anderson and Michael B. Jordan, who played basketball in high school and is arguably the most athletic non-professional athlete in the whole competition. They’ll be joined by Yazz the Greatest, who plays Empire’s Hakeem Lyon, Nick Cannon, legendary NBA player Muggsy Bogues, as well as retiree Chauncey Billups and the 2015 WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donna. It’s just not fair.
Whoever drafted these teams—and, you know, props for getting Steve Nash to help Drizzy with play calls—must have been sleeping when drawing up Canada’s lineup. Not even five years ago, Justin Bieber nabbed the MVP title! Where is he in all of this? *cue Drake crying on the sidelines to ‘Where Are Ü Now?”*
The All-Star Celebrity Game takes place Friday, February 12 at 7PM EST. Watch Drake dance to ‘Hotline Bling’ courtside at a Raptors game below.
