Dreams West drops his old moniker on Busy Night Time 1997.
Bandcamp is littered with great albums from artists who disappear without notice. It’s just something you learn to accept after getting ghosted one too many times. Take Dreams West, whose frustratingly short discography essentially ended following his 2011 self-titled album.
“Shame that there is not much to find from DW on Bandcamp but at least there was this album,” reads one comment that could fit for many of the platform’s M.I.A. greats (looking at you, Vek). Dreams West was a gem, a record that did chillwave better than most of the artists who popularized the term and probably benefitted from the obscurity in the long run (hating on this music in 2011 was a bigger fad than praising it in 2009). Now, five years later, Dreams West finally gets its follow-up.
Working under his own name, James West has joined up with Bootleg Tapes, the surreal Brooklyn dance label we profiled last year, for Busy Night Time 1997. The album is out tomorrow, but you can hear its giddy highlight ‘Get The Fuck Out’ now. Despite the imposing command of the title, the track is anything but — a joyful house thumper that loops the phrase until it sounds like an invitation. Listen below and grab Busy Night Time 1997 starting tomorrow via Bootleg Tapes.
