A Bristol artist is planning a huge mural in tribute to local legend DJ Derek, who has not been seen since June.
The mural will be painted on a wall in Montpelier, near The Star & Garter where Derek cut his teeth as a DJ. Local artist Mat Kauhanen is asking supporters to donate artwork and music for a charity auction in Bristol next March, while the artistically inept can donate money on GoFundMe to provide paints and scaffolding for the project. Any additional money raised will go to local children’s music charities and St Pauls Carnival.
Derek Serpell-Morris was reported missing in July 2015 after his Bristol family hadn’t seen or heard from him in three weeks. There have been reported sightings of the 73-year-old in the months since, but his whereabouts remains unknown. Anyone with any information about Derek is asked to contact the police, or his niece Jennifer via Twitter.
BBC Radio 4 recently broadcast a documentary about the search for DJ Derek.
