Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger’s ‘70s rock ‘n’ roll drama has been renewed for a second season.
The series’ two-hour premiere on Sunday was a ratings disappointment, however, attracting just 764,000 viewers despite its star power.
The show that came on right after, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, managed to draw over a million viewers, in contrast, but as the Independent points out, Vinyl was up against the mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead on AMC and had received lukewarm early reviews.
The anemic ratings didn’t stop HBO from renewing the show for a second season, as announced shortly after the premiere.
The show’s two-volume soundtrack, featuring David Johansen and Otis Redding, was recently released in physical and digital formats – though ironically, not on vinyl.
Last year Scorsese turned Brooklyn’s Rough Trade record shop into a 1970s Sam Goody storefront for filming of the series.
