Voicelab’s Chorus Festival, a celebration of vocal-based music from across the world, returns to London’s Southbank Centre later this month, spanning three days (March 18-20) and performances from more than 40 choirs and vocal artists.

As well as pop-up interactive workshops and free singing events, the festival promises the premiere of a new, interactive opera based on classic folk tale Rumpelstiltskin, as well as an “alternative choir” event hosted by beatboxer Shlomo and featuring Ninja Tune artist Andreya Triana.

On Saturday March 19 meanwhile, performance artist Tamsyn Challenger is set to present her Twitter Chorus, an art piece “performed by hundreds of singers reciting tweets, both comical and controversial” in collaboration with writer and Gaggle founder Deborah Coughlin.

Attendees are invited to take part in lessons in South African vocal music, Balinese kecak ‘monkey chants’, jazz, soul and R&B, while there are also classes for 7-12 year-olds. The truly brave can take part on Saturday night in Gospeloke – karaoke on the Royal Festival Hall stage backed by a live gospel choir.
