The album features a beat by Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys’s five-year-old son.
A surprise new Kendrick Lamar album, untitled unmastered., has dropped, less than a year after his acclaimed To Pimp A Butterfly. Listen to it below.
Eight tracks and 34 minutes long, the release appears to delve into the “chamber” of unreleased music the rapper revealed in an interview earlier this month he’d been waiting to unveil. All tracks are untitled, but are dated to suggest when they were written and recorded, spanning from 2013 to 2016. Guests include CeeLo Green, Anna Wise, Jay Rock and TDE boss Punch.
Some of untitled unmastered. might be familiar to fans. Since To Pimp A Butterfly, Lamar has dropped snippets of new music in recent TV performances, specifically on a December 2014 appearance on The Colbert Report, a January 2016 slot on Fallon, and at last month’s Grammy Awards. His Colbert and Fallon songs appear here, titled ‘untitled 3’ and ‘untitled 8’ respectively.
There had been hints a new record was coming from Lamar’s camp: his label Top Dawg Entertainment earlier this week hinted that the rapper would have a new music incoming at some point this year. Label head Anthony Tiffith then revealed on Instagram a day later that TDE would surprise release something new this week.
Production credits have yet to arrive online, but regular Lamar collaborator Swizz Beatz has revealed on Instagram that ‘Untitled 07’ features production from his five-year-old son, news later confirmed by fellow producer Soundwave. ‘Untitled 06 06.30.2014’, meanwhile, is produced by Adrian Younge and A Tribe Called Quest’s Ali Shaheed Muhammad.
