Update, March 10: A physical release date has been confirmed for untitled unmastered.
CDs will be available on March 31, with vinyl coming on May 27. A few limited edition autographed copies are also available for pre-order.
Close collaborator Sounwave says there might be more to come following last week’s untitled unmastered.
More unheard recordings from Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning To Pimp A Butterfly could soon be released, according to producer Sounwave.
Lamar dropped a surprise album of TPAB demos last week called untitled unmastered. Now Sounwave has hinted in an interview with Complex that more songs from the sessions might soon see the light of day: “We have a lot of records, especially from this album. There are still records people haven’t heard, mainly because we can’t get sample clearances.
“Those songs were ones that we really loved and were hurt that we couldn’t put them on the album. They also have important messages in them, so Kendrick wanted to share those messages with the world. Why not share these records?”
Untitled unmastered. – consisting of eight untitled tracks marked only with dates ranging from mid-2013 to 2016 and featuring production on one track by Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys’ five-year-old son – is currently available on Spotify but to be released on CD this week, Top Dawg Entertainment has confirmed. A vinyl release is expected to soon follow.
