DNA tests confirm human remains found last week are of the 73-year-old Bristol DJ.

Police have confirmed the death of missing DJ Derek Serpell-Morris, The Guardian reports.

The veteran Bristol selector went missing in July 2015, but the search was called off last week when a member of the public found human remains near Cribbs Causeway. DNA tests have confirmed the identity of the body as that of the DJ.

“Derek’s family have been updated and our thoughts remain with them at this very difficult time,” a spokesman for Avon and Somerset police said.

“A post-mortem examination carried out earlier this week was inconclusive and further tests are being progressed, but we’re not treating Derek’s death as suspicious. We’re continuing to carry out further inquiries on behalf of the coroner’s office.”

Dubbed “the UK’s oldest DJ”, Serpell-Morris became a DJ in his mid-30s after working as an accountant, playing rocksteady, reggae, ska, dancehall and soul.

Serpell-Morris was much loved in the Bristol area and beyond, playing gigs at Glastonbury, The Big Chill and many other clubs and festivals, counting Massive Attack among his fans.
