The Ruff Sqwad producer steps centre stage for a fiery three minutes of big rhymes and footballer Jay-Jay Okocha shout-outs.
Prince Rapid has been there since the beginning. A veritable grime founding father, his contributions to the careers of some of the genre’s biggest names – Dizzee Rascal, Kano, BBK and Wiley to name a few – as well as his work in Bow crew Ruff Sqwad have made him a cult legend of the game. Most of those collabs have come with the beatmaker and rapper on production duties though, with his skills on the mic less championed.
That could all change with the release of new track ‘What’s Good?’. “You might see me in E3, you might see me in Poplar, have you seen my CV? Got skills like Jay-Jay Okocha,” he spits on the single, the first from new EP Immortal. “I think its important to be recognised for my skills on the mic as well as off it because I feel I represent the ordinary, down to earth person in the world who just wants to be heard and achieve goals,” he tells FACT about the release. “I wanted to share my opinions and views of life as I see it.
“Immortal is about sharing grime music and the Ruff Sqwad with those people who have followed my work sound for the last 15 years and for those who have just discovered grime music. I made it to motivate people to follow their dreams and to show them that everybody goes through ups and down,” he says. “It’s all about how you react to to the motions.”
Check out the track below. Immortal is released later this month.
