The world’s most dangerous group is in the history books.
Last night, N.W.A became the fifth rap act to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The Compton group was inducted by Kendrick Lamar, who has never shied from the influence N.W.A had on him.
Lamar spoke at length about the styles and impact of each member, including the late Eazy-E, as well as the importance of seeing relatable role models. He concluded by saying “being gangsta is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
During their own acceptance speeches, MC Ren responded to Gene Simmons’ recent comment about the death of rap saying “hip-hop is here forever! Get used to it!” while Ice Cube said that “rock & roll is not an instrument … rock & roll is a spirit.” DJ Yella also brought Eazy-E’s mother on stage to receive the award on behalf of her son.
