“Don’t laugh. I think comedy should be deployed,” the U2 singer told Congress.
Bono visited Congress yesterday (April 12) to suggest America send comedians Amy Schumer, Chris Rock and Sacha Baron Cohen to the Middle East to combat ISIS and Boko Haram.
“It could be the best bulwark we have against violent extremism,” he told a Senate subcommittee hearing on “causes and consequences of violent extremism and the role of foreign assistance. “Don’t laugh. I think comedy should be deployed.
“The first people that Adolf Hitler threw out of Germany were the dadaists and surrealists. It’s like, you speak violence, you speak their language. But you laugh at them when they are goose-stepping down the street and it takes away their power. So I am suggesting that the Senate send in Amy Schumer and Chris Rock and Sacha Baron Cohen, thank you.”
Schumer, responding on Twitter, doesn’t seem so sure about the idea.
