The President of the United States counts himself among the artist’s fans.
The unexpected death of Prince has triggered an outpouring of tributes from fans all over the world, and that includes President Barack Obama who published a tribute to the singer on Facebook.
“Few artists have influenced the sound and trajectory of popular music more distinctly, or touched quite so many people with their talent,” he wrote, counting both himself and First Lady Michelle Obama among the millions of fans in mourning. He cited Prince’s versatility and ability to span genres and roles.
“Prince did it all. Funk. R&B. Rock and roll. He was a virtuoso instrumentalist, a brilliant bandleader, and an electrifying performer,” he wrote before finding solace in one of the rock star’s own quotes:
“‘A strong spirit transcends rules,’ Prince once said — and nobody’s spirit was stronger, bolder, or more creative.”
