Top lads.

Skepta has revealed that he is helping out on Channel 4’s cult east London drama Top Boy.

In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 on Monday (April 18), the grime MC said: “We wanna do bigger things than just our crew. Even with the Top Boy series and Ashley Walters.”

Further cementing his relationship with recent Boy Better Know signee Drake, who is also involved with the show, Skepta explained that the pair have been “making greatness” with the “creative direction,” although it’s not clear yet in what way.

“The whole style what’s going on in London, the sound. Everything about it is real, it’s an actual thing that actually happened and deserves to be on the turner. It’s time,” said the BBK co-founder.

Top Boy star Ashley Walters – formerly So Solid Crew’s Asher D – had previously discussed Drake’s interest in funding a third series after it was initially cancelled. The show, cancelled by Channel 4 after two seasons in 2013, was rumoured in October to be getting a US reboot based in Chicago. This news appears to be the first confirmation that a third season is indeed in production.

It’s been quite a month for Skepta, who in the same week was denied a US visa and awarded an Ivor Novello nomination for his 2015 anthem ‘Shutdown’. His hotly anticipated new album Konnichiwa will also rear its head on May 6.
