In a new interview with TMZ, he discusses the business of musical similarities, including the horns on Beyoncé’s ‘All Night’ which he said resemble OutKast’s ‘SpottieOttieDopaliscious’… which, really? Diplo wasn’t sampling OutKast? He just happened to make a horn line that sounded the same? He knows that same song was sampled on the ‘Flawless***’ remix with Nicki Minaj, no? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Update: Dienel has shared a statement on Facebook about the copyright infringement lawsuit.

“Like most artists that sample music, Bieber could have licensed my song for use in “Sorry.” But he chose not to contact me. After the release of ‘Sorry,’ my lawyers sent Bieber a letter regarding the infringement, but Bieber’s team again chose to ignore me. I offered Bieber’s team an opportunity to have a private dialogue about the infringement, but they refused to even acknowledge my claim, despite the obviousness of the sample. Justin Bieber is the world’s biggest artist, and I’m sure that he and his team will launch a full attack against me. But, in the end, I was left with no other option. I believe I have an obligation to stand up for my music and art.

“After this post, I intend to leave the subject matter of the lawsuit in the hands of my lawyers and the legal system. However, because I do not take the act of suing lightly, I want to take this opportunity to briefly explain my decision to those of you who are connected to me through family, friendship, and music.”

Justin Bieber and Skrillex are being sued over similarities ‘Sorry’ contains to White Hinterland’s 2014 track ‘Ring The Bell’.

White Hinterland, née Casey Dienel, claims ‘Sorry’ contains the same “unique characteristics of the female vocal riff” on her track.

According to TMZ, Dienel told Bieber, Skrillex, BLOODPOP and the other writers in December that she would take legal action over the eight second vocal sample, but they did not heed her warning.

From the opening bars of ‘Ring The Bell’, the similarities are very clear, but a careful listen to both, side-by-side, reveals even more parallels between the melodies of both the vocals and music.
