The state will honor Prince on what would have been his 58th birthday.
Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton has announced that on June 7 the state will celebrate “Prince Day” in honor of the late artist’s birthday, Billboard reports.
Though Prince was a Jehovah’s Witness and did not celebrate his birthday, the state has used the milestone to encourage remembrance of the musician’s legacy, his music, and even the economic boost he gave to the state.
Residents are being encouraged “to wear purple on Prince Day in honor of The Purple One’s enduring legacy”.
Yesterday, animal rights organization Peta rereleased Prince’s 1999 pro-vegan song ‘Animal Kingdom‘, in honor of the same anniversary.
