Troy Ave has been formally indicted on one charge of attempted murder and two felony weapons charges.
The rapper, whose real name is Roland Collins, was involved in a shooting at T.I.’s Irving Plaza concert in New York on May 24 which killed Collins’ bodyguard, Ronald McPhatter, and left four injured. Collins was shot in the leg.
Collins was charged last month and plead not guilty, but the indictment means the courts have found there is enough evidence for the case to proceed. The New York Post reports that he is currently being held without bail until his next court date on June 22.
This week the rapper released the 12-track Free Troy Ave mixtape, where he talks about the shooting in an interlude recorded down the phone from jail: “I lost my best friend, and the sad part about it is I didn’t realize he was my best friend until I lost him. And that shit hurt worse than these bullets from when I got shot.”
Collins was charged with attempted murder on the strength of a security camera video which appears to show him bursting through the door of a V.I.P. room onto a balcony before firing a shot. It’s alleged that Collins went on the rampage because of a feud with Maino, who was opening the show. [via Pitchfork]
