The pair also sung ‘Happy Birthday’ to Malia Obama.
Kendrick Lamar and Janelle Monáe stopped by the White House yesterday (July 4) to perform at President Barack Obama’s Independence Day celebrations.
Lamar performed tracks including ‘Poetic Justice’, ‘Money Trees’, ‘Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe’, ‘Alright’ and ‘Swimming Pools’, while Monáe sang a version of Prince’s ‘Let’s Go Crazy’. The duo also sung ‘Happy Birthday’ to Obama’s daughter Malia. Watch clips of those performances below.
Lamar and Monáe are both second-time visitors to the White House. After declaring that Lamar’s ‘How Much A Dollar Cost’ was his favourite track of 2015, Obama invited the rapper to visit as part of the National Mentoring Partnership.
Monáe recorded a track for the first lady’s Let Girls Learn initiative earlier this year (alongside Missy Elliott and more) and was at the White House in April for a meeting with other artists to discuss criminal justice reform.
