‘The Hills’ artist has previously tweeted his support for the movement.

The Weeknd has donated $250,000 to the Black Lives Matter movement, reports The FADER.

The donation comes a month after he tweeted his support for the movement, following the police deaths of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling.

The parents of The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, are from Ethiopia, but raised the performer in Canada. The Black Lives Matter network has a chapter in Tesfaye’s hometown of Toronto.

This is the second time in a month the Beauty Behind the Madness singer has dug deep into his pockets. Earlier in the week, he donated $50,000 to the University of Toronto to help establish an Ethiopic Studies program. The Weeknd’s contribution pushed the organisation’s fundraising to $170,000 to launch a course on the Ge’ez, an ancient script and language known as Ethiopic.
