Sadly, it does not feature a guest appearance from The Rock.
The road to Tinashe’s sophomore full-length Joyride has been littered with false starts – a first single featuring Young Thug was replaced by one featuring Chris Brown; darker collaborations with Juicy J and Metro Boomin, respectively, have been scrapped all together; her spring shows were canceled mid-tour due to exhaustion. But it seems ‘Superlove’, written and produced by Tricky Stewart and The-Dream, is the rollout kick-off the LA singer has been waiting for.
The track takes inspiration from Ghost Town DJs’ ‘My Boo’, a ’90s megahit which gained new life this year when the song went viral on Vine. Another crucial bit of ’90s ephemera that was reinvigorated this year was the cheesy David Hasselhoff-led lifeguard drama Baywatch, as a film version of the show starring The Rock and Zac Efron went into production this spring. Here, Tinashe uses the series as the them of the video making the whole thing both a nod to decades past and a celebration of summer’s final days.
Joyride is slated for release this fall.
