M.I.A. suffered from some label drama over the weekend when she claimed that Interscope would not clear the Diplo-produced version of track ‘Bird Song’ from her upcoming album AIM. She’s taken to Twitter to further illuminate why she feels like her last album, the excellent Matangi, didn’t get as much attention as she felt it deserved. “[It] got buried for various reasons – NFL , music industry baby daddy battle, my ex manager became my label head ,and politics.”

M.I.A. is expected to release her next album AIM on September 9, but it does not come without its own wave of political controversy. Last month, she was dropped from the lineup of the inaugural London Afropunk after some things she said about the Black Lives Matter movement.
