The rapper will not be a convicted felon so can still tour internationally in the future.

Kodak Black is to be released from prison and placed under house arrest following a plea deal, reports Florida’s Sun-Sentinel.

The Florida rapper, né Dieuson Octave, reportedly changed his plea from not guilty to no contest and will live at an undisclosed location for a year as part of the plea deal, which also includes five years of probation.

Kodak, one of our rappers to watch in 2015, was arrested back in April for weapon and marijuana possession after fleeing police during a drug exchange.

According to Sun-Sentinel reporter Brett Clarkson, Octave will be required to do 300 hours of community service and participate in anger management and mentorship sessions, along with drug evaluations. Judge Lisa Porter reportedly agreed to withhold adjudication, meaning that Kodak will not be a convicted felon so can still tour internationally in the future.

Kodak’s label, Atlantic Records, sent a statement to Billboard yesterday (August 16): “We are grateful for the mercy of the court and pleased with the outcome. We are excited to watch Kodak Black grow as an artist and he is so thankful for all of the support he has received.”

Update: Kodak Black will not be released from prison due to other outstanding warrants.

Florida newspaper Sun Sentinel reports that Broward County authorities found a warrant from St. Lucie City, FL and another from South Carolina.

“One of them is a no-bond hold… At this point he’s still going to be in jail. He’s not going to be released,” Joy Oglesby, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s office, told the paper.
