The Chicago hopeful returns.
If you’ve been paying any attention to FACT’s regular rap round-up, you’ll no doubt have come across Chicago’s Mick Jenkins – a rare artist who can straddle the line between rap and neo soul and sound completely comfortable doing so. He follows his city’s rich tradition – think Chance The Rapper or Common – and he’s finally announced his eagerly-awaited debut album The Healing Component.
The album is due to drop on September 23 via Jenkins’ own Free Nation label and you can hear the smooth, soulful first single ‘Spread Love’ below. Jenkins is also gearing up for a tour in support of the record, in collaboration with Red Bull Sound Select. He’s set to hit 12 cities in North America and tickets will be modestly priced at $3 with an RSVP.
Watch FACT TV’s interview with Mick Jenkins at 2015’s SXSW in Austin, where he talks about his musical upbringing and plans for the future.
