L.A producer Mndsgn paints with emotions on his new album.
Stones Throw’s Mndsgn looks to ’80s boogie, funk, and soul for his latest album, Bodywash, and he takes these inspirations to the next level with a spiritual video for album track ‘Cosmic Perspective’.
The L.A-based producer and musician, real name Ringgo Ancheta, created the concept for the video with Alima Jennings. It was directed and edited by Mochilla’s Eric Coleman.
The video sees Mndsgn and friends – including a grip of L.A contemporaries such as Ras G, Zeroh, Giovanni Marks, and more – singing and getting down in a church of their own making. The holy spirit (of funk, presumably) makes itself felt.
Ancheta calls Bodywash a “soul record that plays with nostalgic elements in a very dynamic and positive way. Think about it as a box of crayons for you to draw emotions with.” The album was inspired by early SOLAR records and zooms in on a sound heavily influenced by ’80s soul, boogie, and funk and ’90s R&B. Unlike previous albums, Bodywash also features Ancheta singing prominently.
Bodywash is released on September 16 via Stones Throw.
Last May, FACT TV visited Ancheta’s cosy home studio in Los Angeles for a laid-back Against The Clock session that remains one of our most popular to date.
