“An exploration of femininity in creativity.”

Laura Marling has launched a project that seeks to open up a dialogue about the lack of women working in recording studios.

Reversal of the Muse, which launches today (August 22), is made up of podcasts, photo diaries and studio recordings. The first two podcasts come from LA trio Haim and Vanessa Parr, an in-house engineer at LA’s Village Studios who has worked with the likes of Elton John, B.B. King and Coldplay.

“Reversal Of The Muse began as conversations between friends about female creativity,” explains Marling in a press release, while stating that, in 10 years of making records, she had only come across two female engineers working in studios.

“Starting from my experience of being a woman I began to ask myself what difference it might have made had I had more women around, if any,” she adds. “I wanted to know why progress has been so slow in this area and what effect it would have on music.”

Haim are currently working with Rostam Batmanglij and Ariel Rechtshaid on their highly-awaited sophomore LP.
