Frank Ocean’s tandem release of Endless and Blond is a little bit more unconventional than just its mysterious but robust rollout. According to The FADER, Ocean was fulfilling his contract with Def Jam, where he had signed circa 2009 and which released his 2011 debut full length Channel Orange, with the release of Endless. Blond is an independent release.
Ocean’s relationship with the label had initially been tenuous. His breakout mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra was released while he was waiting to be attended to by Def Jam.
