We’re just happy it’s not *that* Labyrinth.

Johnny Depp will play the lead role in an upcoming biopic on Russell Poole, the late LA detective famous for his tireless investigation into the unsolved murder of Biggie Smalls.

Titled Labyrinth, the film is based on Randall Sullivan’s book of the same name which profiled Poole and shed light on his case. Though the detective died last year without ever reaching a clear solution, his investigation did uncover a great deal of corruption in the LAPD. Poole’s investigative work was also a source for the book Tupac:187 and the documentary Biggie & Tupac.

Labyrinth is scheduled to go into production at the end of the year. Listen to an interview with Poole about the case below.
