See Prince’s “untouched” recording studio and much more.
Prince’s Paisley Park compound in Chanhassen, MN will open for three days of tours starting tomorrow but The Today Show has a first look for those who won’t be there.
In a segment aired earlier today, co-host Al Roker takes us through areas that will be available for public viewing – like a performance space and a room dedicated to Purple Rain that houses different memorabilia from the film and album-making.
Paisley Park was originally supposed to open this month as a museum celebrating the life and work of the late Prince, who died of an opioid overdose in April. The opening has been halted by the Chanhassen city council who are still deciding whether to rezone the space as a museum or not. Paisley Park has been awarded a temporary license to operate as a museum starting tomorrow, October 6.

Update: As tours of the Paisley Park estate opened yesterday, local blog The Current revealed details of the urn that holds Prince’s remains.
On display in the atrium, the 3D-printed urn was designed by Prince’s sister and nephew, Tyka and President Nelson, with help from the Foreverence company to symbolize the artist’s home, studio, and sanctuary. The urn resembles a miniature Paisley Park and features various references to Prince including seven iridescent crystals hand-selected by Tyka – in reference to Prince’s favourite number – ornamental doves, and the late singer’s famous purple Yamaha piano.
Photos of the urn are not available as no photography is permitted on the tours.
