Records show he donated to Hillary Clinton last year.
Kanye West was booed during his show last night after saying that, had he voted, he “would’ve voted for Trump,” calling the President-elect’s controversial rhetoric “genius”. However, as Pigeons & Planes points out, extended footage of the rant show him saying that despite his voting preference he still believes in causes such as Black Lives Matter, women’s right and gay marriage.
“That don’t mean that I don’t think that Black Lives Matter. That don’t mean I don’t think that I’m a believer in women’s rights. That don’t mean I don’t believe in gay marriage,” he says, adding that he has many friends who voted for Clinton including manager Scooter Braun. He adds, “That don’t mean that I don’t believe in these things because that was the guy I would’ve voted for.”
Later in the video, amid overwhelming boos and shouts, West expresses his distrust of the media and the US government before repeating “What do you really believe?” for an entire minute.
Spin points out that West donated $2,700 to Hillary Clinton’s campaign in 2015. The year before that he donated $15,000 to the Democratic National Committee.
