Update, January 13: The label says it has no connection with the “grime scout”.
Slip Records has contacted FACT to say it has never worked with Airbnb host Dominique, who claims to be an A&R for the label in his listing. Buyer beware…
From the people who brought you the overnight stay at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade shop…
Airbnb is no longer just a platform for cheap(er) accommodations when you’re traveling. The home rental startup now offers Experiences, a for-hire local tour guide who will show you something in the city you’re visiting that you may not find in a guide book.
Enter the Grime Scout, a “3 day entertainment immersion” that might be more legit than it sounds. Hosted by Dominque, who claims to be a Slip Records artist and repertoire coordinator (Slip recently released the excellent Mica Levi and Oliver Coates EP Remain Calm), you will “visit London’s best music venues to scout for talent.”
The excursion also includes a meet-up with a grime producer and two rounds of drinks at a club in Dalston where you “might just end up partying in the same spot as someone like Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran, or ASAP Rocky.”
The whole thing costs $230 or £190 for three mini adventures suited for a certain kind of grime fan. The one question we have: If you’re going with someone who works at a label to scout for talent, will you possibly be paying him to help do his job?
