McCartney aims to get back the song rights once owned by Michael Jackson.

Paul McCartney has sued Sony in a preemptive step to reacquiring many of the Beatles songs he previously lost his copyrights, TMZ reports.

In legal documents acquired by the publication, McCartney affirms that in 2018 he will reacquire the copyrights on the songs he infamously lost control over in the 1980s after they were purchased by Michael Jackson.

The Beatle recommended Jackson get into buying publishing rights, which the pop star did by acquiring ATV Music Publishing in 1985. Jackson merged ATV with Sony in 1995, but the late singer’s estate sold its stake in the company last year.

Sony has yet to comment or respond as to whether it will cooperate with the copyright transfer.
