Jay Z is back in the cell phone exclusives game.
Tidal, Jay Z’s proprietary streaming platform, has announced that cell phone service provider Sprint has acquired 33% of the company.
According to a press release, the partnership means that Tidal owner-artists (which includes Beyoncé, Rihanna, Arcade Fire and Nicki Minaj, among many others) will be releasing material exclusive to Sprint subscribers.
This is not the first time Jay Z has offered new music in a straight-to-cell phone package. In 2013, he released his last album Magna Carta Holy Grail exclusively to Samsung cell phone users.
Tidal recently unveiled a new feature called Track Edit, where users can manipulate the length and speed of songs. The streaming platform also now offers “master-quality” audio.
