He was the writer of We Got the Neutron Bomb: The Untold Story of LA Punk.

Marc Spitz, a renowned music journalist, author and playwright, has died at age 47, Billboard reports. Details about the cause of death have not yet been disclosed.

Spitz was best known for his work as a staff writer at SPIN Magazine where he wrote covers stories on everyone from Trent Reznor to The Strokes. He was also a contributor to Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, New York Magazine and The New York Times and most recently was writing a weekly pop culture column for Salon.

His 2013 autobiographic novel How Soon is Never? traced the story of two music journalists attempting to get The Smiths back together. In 2001, he published We Got the Neutron Bomb: The Untold Story of LA Punk.

He also published books about David Bowie, twee, Green Day and Mick Jagger. His first play Retail Sluts debuted in New York City in 1998. He continued to write and produce off-Broadway theater and his play Shyness Is Nice was anthologized as one of NY Theatre’s Best Plays of 2001.
