The Castlevania show has been written by Warren Ellis.

Anyone over the age of 30 should be very familiar with Konami’s long-running Castlevania franchise. Today, io9 reports that a press release from US streaming giant Netflix has confirmed the release of a Castlevania TV show.

Entitled Castlevania Season 1, Part 1, the show is due to debut this year but other details are scarce. Adi Shankar, the producer behind the excellent Dredd and the soon-to-be-released Power Rangers reboot is producing, and has described the show as a “super-violent Castlevania mini-series.”

Writing on Facebook, Shankar assured that it would be a “dark, satirical” inversion of vampire tropes, and would be “the western world’s first good video game adaptation.”

Shankar also revealed that two seasons had already been readied and – here’s the really good part – they’ve been written by none other than the legendary Warren Ellis, who’s best known for penning Transmetropolitan and Iron Man’s game-changing Extremis book.

The Castlevania series is reportedly based on the third game in the series, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse.
