Experimental pop in under 10 minutes from a talented Berlin duo.
Last year, FACT travelled to Berlin to attend the second edition of Loop, a summit for music makers hosted by Ableton at the city’s Funkhaus venue.
FACT was invited to bring its Against The Clock series to the venue’s historic recording studios and present a few sessions with a difference: the participants had to make a track in 10 minutes with the added pressure of being filmed in front of a live studio audience.
One act taking the challenge at Loop was UMA, the Berlin duo of Ella and Florian Zwietnig whose vocal-led music is influenced by ’80s synth-pop, drone, ambient and even UK club music. Using Roland’s TR-808 drum machine, Juno-106 synth and live vocals, the duo showed us how to craft an experimental pop song in 10 minutes.
