Last week, London artist TĀLĀ brought her global club sound to FACT TV’s Against The Clock series, and she’s giving away the drum samples she used for free.
Inspired in part by the music of her Iranian heritage, TĀLĀ’s music also brings in elements of Egypt’s electro chaabi, hip-hop and R&B – something you can hear in the drum samples she uses to build her tracks. TĀLĀ has a name for her own collection of drum samples: Duchess No.1. It covers everything from boomy kicks and vocal cuts to Thai drums, sitar riffs and a “Serbia shaker”.
“The Duchess No.1 drum kit is a collection of sounds that I have used on my past releases and sounds that I have collected and sampled over the years,” she tells FACT. “I wanted to make a cool drum kit that you can just chuck into a sampler and have fun with. Some of my favourite producers have released their own drum kits that I’ve battered and absolutely loved like Just Blaze, Beat Butcha and Boi 1da, and it gave me inspiration to make my own collection of sounds to share with everyone.”
