Pensive “prayer for peace” written in a sequoia grove on the way home from festival weekend.
Lana Del Rey has shared an Instagram video of a new song she wrote after attending Coachella.
The singer, who announced her forthcoming fifth album Lust For Life at the end of March with a surreal visual trailer, also posted about the disconnect between her festival experience and turbulent world events that apparently inspired the song.
She wrote: “I’m not gonna lie- I had complex feelings about spending the weekend dancing whilst watching tensions w North Korea mount. I find It’s a tightrope between being vigilantly observant of everything going on in the world and also having enough space and time to appreciate God’s good earth the way it was intended to be appreciated.”
The short clip features Del Rey singing five a cappella lines into the camera before it pans to the tops of the sequoia trees. The lyrics refer to a “stairway to heaven” – the second explicit nod to a classic rock song of the album campaign so far – and the verse concludes with Del Rey declaring, “I’d give it all away if you give me just one day to answer one question.”
