Lobster Theremin boss Jimmy Asquith goes hard, dark and fast on this warehouse-ready selection of messy techno, trance and electro.

Growing up in West Yorkshire, Jimmy Asquith’s first brush with electronic music was the trance and hard house blaring out of car windows in his neighborhood.

“It’s the kind of thing you only really get if you’re from a small place where there isn’t much to do,” he explains. “Everyone relies on
this highly saccharine melodic richness to add a splash of color to what can often be quite a hectic yet boring environment.”

In 2013, Asquith started a record label called Lobster Theremin to release Equation, the debut EP from Londoner Jay Donaldson, better known as Palms Trax. The imprint quickly gained traction and helped define a blurry new “lo-fi” house sound. A few years later, Lobster Theremin is a labyrinth of sublabels and its own distribution center, and Asquith oversees over 60 imprints.

Alongside his role as label boss and DJ, Asquith has also been busy as a producer, recording as Tom Hang, Chicago Floatation Device and, since last year, under his own name. His FACT mix explores a wide variety of influences, chugging through wiry warehouse techno and robust exclusives from Hadone and D.Dan and ending on a curveball trance banger from hard house imprint Tidy Trax.
