They may even start a band.
Skepta and The 1975 are planning a collaboration inspired by the Pet Shop Boys’ ‘West End Girls’, according to The 1975’s Matt Healy.
Healy told NME last night (February 15) that the pair had tried collaborating recently and it didn’t work out, but that they are “going to do something in the future.”
“We’re going to do a tune together. We want to do like a ‘West End Girls’ Pet Shop Boys [kind of thing]. Maybe start a band, just me and Skepta do a band. Well we’re talking about it, so let’s see what happens.”
Healy was being interviewed at last night’s NME Awards 2017, where Skepta picked up the gong for Best British Male Artist. The grime don was presented the award by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who called it an “honor,” while praising Skepta as “talented and a “role model.”
On accepting his win, the Konnichiwa artist said: “Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is the one I wanted as well. I love this trophy. This is my mood right now. Thank you to my family, too many names to mention. Thank you very much. Big up.”
Skepta later said he was “a fan of Sadiq” because the pair “do the same thing” and “go against the grain.”
